Nuclear Powers Pennsylvania Statement on Governor Shapiro’s Pennsylvania Reliable Energy Sustainability Standard (PRESS) Initiative

Nuclear power is an indispensable part of Pennsylvania’s energy mix. So, it is very encouraging to learn that Governor Shapiro’s proposal to expand Pennsylvania’s outdated Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards includes new support for existing nuclear plants in the Keystone State.

No source of electricity is as reliable as nuclear power. Including a Pennsylvania Production Tax Credit for existing nuclear plants that is based on the framework of the current federal production tax credit is a sensible starting point. Nuclear power is clean, safe, and affordable electricity that generates economic and environmental benefits for everyone.
